A human-scale capital on the banks of the Liffey, Dublin charms with its literary heritage and the warmth of its welcome. Two days are enough to discover the essentials — here's our itinerary, to complete on our what to do in Dublin page.
Day 1 — Trinity College, the castle & the cathedral
Start with Trinity College, Ireland's oldest university: its library holds the Long Room, a breathtaking hall of wooden shelving, and the Book of Kells, a 9th-century illuminated manuscript. Book your timed ticket ahead — it's the city's most visited site.
Continue to Dublin Castle, former seat of British power in Ireland for seven centuries, then to St Patrick's Cathedral, the country's largest cathedral, once led by writer Jonathan Swift.

Day 2 — The Liffey, Phoenix Park & hidden gems
Walk along the Liffey to the Ha'penny Bridge, a small 19th-century footbridge offering one of the city's most photographed views, surrounded by colourful Georgian façades. Take a break at the Chester Beatty Library, an underrated but exceptional museum with free entry.
End with a stroll through Phoenix Park, one of the largest enclosed urban parks in Europe, home to a herd of wild deer roaming free — a pocket of nature steps from the centre.
